INTRODUCTION TO SAILING COURSE: For those that are interested in knowing what sailing is about – but not sure if the sailing life is for them, this one day introductory course gets you started. The cost and course time count toward the ASA-101 Basic Keelboat Certification Course offered below. Cost: $170.00 per student – includes all training material.

Captain Roger is an ASA Certified Instructors and holds a U.S. Coast Guard Master 100 Ton Licensesand was ASA Instructor Of The Year 2008 To allow for maximum student flexibility we do not have scheduled course dates. Call to arrange your class date. We offer flexible options - weekdays – weekends - even classroom time in the evenings.
We prefer to have a maximum of 3 students per sailing class 101 and 103; a maximum of 3 students for 104; and a maximum of 4 students for 106. Call or e-mail if you have other requirements.
Maximum class size for Coastal Navigation is 4 students which includes practical on-the-water application.
Price of various courses includes: ASA sailing manual – Sailing Fundamentals or Cruising Fundamentals; ASA written exam and certification; ASA Log Book; with the 105 course you receive Coastal Navigation & Piloting & Solutions Manual & DVD along with your navigation tools. Certain meals are provided with the 104 and 106 course.
For ASA 101, price includes your one year ASA Membership Fee and subscription to SAIL magazine.
A 50% deposit is required to register for each course. Upon receipt of deposit we will send you your instructional package.
Basic Keelboat Course – ASA 101 Prerequisites: None Length: 3 days Price: $560*
General Description: This basic sailing course is designed to get the new sailor off on the right tack. You will learn basic sailing through a combination of classroom and on-the-water instructions. Areas of Instruction Include: Sailboat Familiarization; Sailing Terminology; Rigging and Sails; Points of Sail, Sail Trim, Tacking and Jibing; Rules of the Road; Safety at Sea; Docking and Mooring; Sailing
For ASA 101, price includes ASA sailing manual – Sailing Fundamentals; ASA written exam and certification; ASA Log Book plus your one year ASA Membership Fee and subscription to SAIL magazine – a $$99 value + $590 in savings coupons.
Basic Coastal Cruising – ASA 103 Prerequisites: ASA-101 Length: 2 days Price: $395
General Description: The Basic Coastal Cruising course is the next step that opens up new sailing opportunity and adventure. This course is designed to teach students coastal cruising skills both as skipper and crew aboard a 31 foot boat with auxiliary diesel power. Areas of Instruction Include: Running Lights; Duties of Skipper and Crew; Rules of the Road; Safety Equipment; Gasoline Outboard and Diesel Inboard Engine Operation and Troubleshooting; Marine Weather and Heavy Weather Sailing; Reefing System; How to Recover From Running Aground; Introductory Navigation and Charts; Emergency Procedures and Hypothermia; and more Knots.
For ASA 103, price includes; ASA written exam and certification.
Bareboat Chartering – ASA 104 Prerequisites: ASA-101 & ASA-103 Length: 3 days Price: $695
General Description: The Bareboat Chartering Class gives the Coastal Cruiser the skills to sail a 30 to 50 food auxiliary sailboat on a Bareboat Charter. This three day course includes classroom and extensive on-the water instruction including one night onboard at anchor. Areas of Instruction Include: Cruising Boat Handling and Seamanship; Boast Systems Including Electrical, Engine, Fuel, Water and Head; Fuel Planning, Trip Planning, Provisioning and Meal Preparation; Maintenance Procedures; Coastal Navigation including Bearings, Fixes, and Time-Speed-Distance Calculations, Mooring and Anchoring; Problem Solving and Trouble Shooting.
Course length includes: 3 days and 1 night accommodations on the water. Meals include two lunches, one dinner and one breakfast. Meals and drinks ashore will be at your own expense.
For ASA 104, price includes: ASA sailing manual –Cruising Fundamentals; ASA written exam and certification and certain meals during the overnight portion of the course.
Costal Navigation – ASA 105 Prerequisites: None Length: 3 days Price: $425
General Description: After completing this course the student will be able to safely navigate a sailing vessel in coastal and inland waters using standard paper nautical charts and navigation tools and techniques. Students will have an opportunity to apply the 20 hours of classroom skills during a 4 hour on-the-water session. This course is a prerequisite for the Advanced Coastal Cruising Course ASA 106.
Areas of Instruction Include: Nautical Charts; Nautical Publications; Navigation Aids; Navigation Tools; Basic Plotting and Piloting; Dead Reckoning; Position Fixes; Wind, Current and Tide Sailing; and Compass Corrections. Electronic Navigation is not covered in this course.
Navigation Tools: Parallel Bar, Compass and Calculator are included.
Lunches are provided on day 1 and 2 of classroom session. Lunch on day 3 will be at your own expense.

Costal Navigation – ASA 105 Prerequisites: None Home Study Course Price $225
General Description: Same as above without classroom sessions. Student does home-study and schedules written exam through instructor.

Advanced Coastal Cruising – ASA 106 Prerequisites: ASA-101, 102, 103, 104 & 105 Length: 4 days Price: $1195
General Description: The Advanced Coastal Cruising course is designed to polish the skills of an experienced skipper and navigator. Curriculum includes classroom and extensive on-the-water instruction including a night sail and two nights at anchor.
Areas of Instruction Include: Advanced Seamanship; Navigational Techniques; Trip Planning; Provisioning; Meal Planning; Day and Night Sailing Offshore; Emergency Procedures and Boat Engineering; Personal Gear and Safety Equipment; Varied Weather Conditions; Planning and Executing Crew Watches.
Course Length Includes: 4 days and 3 nights accommodations on the water. Meals included are three breakfasts, two lunches and one dinner aboard. Meals & drinks ashore will be at your own expense.
It’s best to have at least 2 to 3 students for this course.
